Originally developed and released by the code-savvy bunch at Codemasters in 2009, Colin McRae: DiRT 2 is now available on the Mac thanks to the people at Feral Interactive, who make a living by porting Windows PC games to OS X.

Granted, Mac gamers are a little over two years late to the party, but a good game good to play years on.

On their site, a message from the game development studio reads: “Moments after our roaring announcement that Colin McRae: DiRT 2 would be racing onto the Mac for July 21st, the game skidded off the track, juddered down a backroad and got lost in the jungle.”

“We sent the Feral greasemonkeys in after it, and they spent the next six weeks in overdrive tweaking the set-up to improve compatibility with the mighty Mac OS X 10.7 Lion,” the company reveals.

“It’s finally free from the undergrowth and will be released online on September 8th, with the boxed version skidding into stores on September 15th.”

September 8th is here and not only can you download DiRT 2 from the Mac App Store and through Feral’s own channels, but you can grab the free demo and rev up for free to decide whether it’s worth paying 40 bucks for the full monty.
