Snek: A Python-inspired Language for Embedded Devices
Snek is a tiny embeddable language targeting processors with only afew kB of flash and ram. Think of something that would have beenrunning BASIC years ago and you'll have the idea. These processors aretoo small to run MicroPython.
Snek borrows semantics and syntax from python, but only provides atiny subset of that large language. The goal is to have Snek programsable to run in a full Python (version 3) implementation so that anyknowledge gained in learning Snek will transfer directly to learningPython.
Current Status
Snek version 1.5 has been released. This release adds support for theArduino Uno, supportsOptiboot on the Duemilanove and fixes chained comparision operators(e.g. a < b < c). It also adds sound output support for the AdafruitCircuit Playground Express.
Releases
I've got Snek packaged for generic Linux, Mac OS X and Windowsmachines. All three packages include a snek binary for the hostoperating system to experiment with, binaries for target devices,snekde (the Snek Development Environment) and documentation.
Debian Packages
Snek is available in Debian unstable. If you're running Debian stable(version 10, aka “Buster”), Snek can be installed frommy personal package archive.Instructions on how to set that up for your machine are available inthe README in that directory.
There are two snek packages:
snek. The main 'snek' package includes source code for use in yourown embedded environment, a binary for all supported boards, the'snekde' development environment and documentation.
snek-bin. The auxiliary 'snek-bin' package includes a 'snek'application compiled for the host machine, which can be useful toexperiment with language features and functions that do not requireaccess to the target hardware.

Snek in NuttX
NuttX is a moderate-sized embedded RTOS thatworks on a variety of small systems. I've written the necessaryglue-code and build instructions to make Snek available there. All ofthat code is licensed under the standard NuttX/BSD license, butbecause NuttX upstream is not willing to take code that references GPLcode, I've created a fork of the NuttX app tree in my git repository..
NuttX has a good mechanism for adding code of this sort; there are nochanges to existing NuttX files, just a new directory inapp/interpreters/snek. When present, all of the necessary optionsbecome visible in the regular NuttX configuration tool.

New users can often find it difficult to print their drawings to scale, so in today’s blog, we are going to cover printing to scale from Model Space in DraftSight.
To start with, we have a small sketch of the TV room in a house drawn at a scale of 1:1. Obviously you don’t want to print this off at full size, so what are your options?
At the Menu, select Print.
The Print Dialogue Box will appear.
Next, select your Printer. In my case, I have selected CutePDF as I want to print the file to a PDF. Then, select Paper Size. I’ve selected A3. As you can see in the image above, under Scale, Fit to paper size is ticked. Untick this.
Next, click on Specify, then Window and select the area you would like to print. Once the area is selected, under Scale, select the scale you would like to print to. Obviously this is dependent on your paper size. There is no point printing a drawing to a scale that will not fit on your sheet.
As you can see in my example below, I have selected a scale of 1:20. I have also ticked Print on center of paper. That does exactly what it says, it prints your drawing on the center of your sheet.
To check and see how your drawing will look when printed, you can click on Print Preview. If you are happy with how it looks, click on OK. Because I selected to print to a PDF, a dialogue box appears asking where I’d like to save the PDF file to. Just select a location and click Save. If you opted to print directly to a printer / plotter, your drawing will start to print.
And that’s it. That’s how to print to scale from Model Space. Next week, we will look at printing to scale from Sheet Space and creating Viewports to scale.
